International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3rd around the world. The theme for 2019 is “The Future is Accessible”.
This theme illustrates our need to continue to eliminate all barriers to full and equal participation of people living with disabilities. This means being able to access buildings without using stairs; ramps to local beaches; and obtaining a job without fear of discrimination.
We commemorate this day to ensure that environmental and social barriers are identified and that we work towards overcoming those barriers. Health issues and disabilities are something we will all face at some point in our lives, so let’s work together to address these issues to equal participation.
Working towards an accessible future is everyone’s responsibility!
In Solidarity,
