After 18 months of negotiations, postdoctoral fellows at Queen’s University ratified their first collective agreement yesterday evening.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), which represents the 185 postdoctoral fellows at Queen’s had been asking for a fair agreement for these workers, similar to what other workers on campus receive.
“Postdocs weren’t going to accept less than any other worker on campus, and we are proud to say that we achieved a wage increase for everyone, a full medical and dental plan, protections to academic freedom and intellectual property and paternity and maternity leave improvements”, stated Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for Ontario.
The agreement at Queen's provides for extended health care benefits on the same basis as all other full-time employees, including a 100% funded dental plan.
