Recovery of net pay vs gross pay

PSAC has demanded the government only recover net pay from employees who have received overpayments because of Phoenix, instead of requiring the reimbursement of gross pay.

The employer’s response, however, falls disappointingly short of the union’s demand.

Overpayments must be reported by January 19, 2018

December 11 marked the first meeting of our newly elected NAV CANADA bargaining team. They met to finalize the membership’s demand package.

Negotiations with the employer took place during the week of December 12 - 15, 2017.

Throughout the week, our bargaining team exchanged proposal packages with NAV CANADA representatives. Non-monetary language found in various articles were signed off and the team is pleased with the progress to date.

On November 10, 2017, after two years of negotiations, our bargaining team finally reached a tentative agreement with CFIA. Our bargaining team unanimously recommends ratification of our new agreement.

If ratified, the settlement  will improve  our members'  working  conditions  in several  ways. These improvements are the product of the hard work and dedication of both our team and the membership  over the course of this round of bargaining.

With the Public Interest Commision (PIC) mediation attempt having failed in October, our FB bargaining team proceeded to hearing on November 2, 6 and 23 at the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations Employment Board (FPSLREB). Over the course of these two days our bargaining team made our case for compensation parity with other law enforcement agencies across Canada, including other federal agencies under the Ministry of Public Safety. We also made the case – repeatedly – that there are serious problems at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and that in light of these, we seek new rights for employees particularly as they pertain to discipline, hours of work and arming. CBSA management is not to be trusted. We need new protections.

Public Service Alliance of Canada passed a resolution at our 2015 National Convention to lobby governments to rescind the blood, bone marrow and organ donation ban imposed on men and trans women who have had sex with men.

The ban is discriminatory because the criteria is based on sexual orientation rather than high-risk behaviors.

PSAC National President Robyn Benson recently sent a letter to Federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor to call for an immediate end to the ban.
