Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
PSAC has been a leader in the labour movement advocating for equal pay for our members and an end to the gender pay gap. Sadly, although pay equity is the law in Ontario, women continue to earn on average 30% less than their male counterparts.
What: Equal Pay Day Rally
When: On April 19th at 12:30pm
Where: The corner of College and University, in Toronto
Guest Speakers: Mary Cornish (Equal Pay Coalition Chair), Fred Hahn (CUPE Ontario President), and Sharon DeSousa (PSAC Ontario REVP and OFL Vice-President)
Closing the gender pay gap is the government’s responsibility. Each year the Equal Pay Coalition, of which PSAC is a part of, asks all Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) to sign the MPP Pay Equity Champion Pledge.
Is your MPP on the list? Reach out and let them know you support closing the gender pay gap (http://equalpaycoalition.org/mobilize-your-mpps/).
And remember to wear red to the rally to show how the discriminatory pay gaps keep women “in the red”.
In Solidarity,
Sharon DeSousa,
PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President
