Level 1 provides front-line advocacy skills to union members. Participants will receive an insight into the operations of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, as well as an understanding of the rights and obligations of injured workers.

This training is a must for stewards and other workplace representatives, or members who want to use the acquired knowledge and skills to solve problems in the workplace. You will find out what the law says about grievances, grievors and their representatives, and the protections built in for those who choose to use the grievance procedure to solve problems.

Introduces members to the PSAC and prepares them for more advanced union education. It provides an historical and structural overview of the union, introduces participants to the collective agreement and gives them a chance for hands-on practice in problem-solving.Open to all members.

This learning event is the next step following the We Are All Affected Regional Meeting.  The session is designed so that Campaigners will understand the overall purpose and scope of the current WAAA Campaign and their role in it.  The event will provide skills and knowledge which will assist local campaigners with the task of educating members on the issues which face them with respect to budget cuts, threats to collective agreement provisions and union security, through one-on-one conversations within their local.

 The government is preparing another budget that Finance Minister Flaherty has said will require further “sacrifice” on the part of federal government workers.  Legislation recently passed with the support of the Harper Government and now before the Senate would impose extremely intrusive rules on all unions – including PSAC Components and Locals.  At least one representative of the Harper Government has spoken openly in recent months about unilaterally opening our collective agreements to remove union security provisions that have existed for over 40 years.
