Greetings, The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is currently in a difficult round of bargaining with Canada Post that may result in a strike or lockout. Should this occur, members are encouraged to support CUPW in their efforts for a fair collective agreement by participating on picket lines and sending messages of support.

PSAC Ontario is proud to present a new members guide for new employees entering the PSAC family. This short guide is meant to be an introduction to our union, as well as provide information on how to access assistance, filing a grievance and contacting their union representatives. Each of the PSAC Regional Offices have printed copies for Locals who wish to pick them up for their members and can be accompanied with a union membership card.

The federal government has promised that by October 31, 2016, all of the remaining cases of the Phoenix pay system will be resolved. You can see PSAC’s National Executive Vice-President, Chris Aylward discuss PSAC’s reaction to this promise on CTV. PSAC will be holding a National Day of Action on October 31st, to remind the government of this promise and to demand that our members who have been affected be fully compensated.

Nearly 400 workers at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s head office have chosen to unionize and join the PSAC family. This comes after nearly 6 years of wage freezes and insecurity due to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation’s move to privatize the industry.

Conservative MPs want to weaken unions. They want to pass a law that will open up our collective agreements. They want to take out our union security clauses. The most important thing we can do to combat these attacks is educate and engage thousands of members about the gains our union has made and the threats we face. PSAC has launched a member-to-member, one-to-one conversation campaign. Member campaigners are speaking to other members, face-to-face across the country.

Sisters and Brothers,The world has lost one of the greatest activists of our time, Nelson Mandela. Yesterday at the age of 95, Mandela passed away, leaving a legacy that has, and will continue to inspire the world.From the injustices of the apartheid system, rose a leader whose convictions were not diminished even in the face of decades of imprisonment. Advocating for racial equality, economic justice and peace; Mandela became the first black President of South Africa in 1994.

Greetings Sisters and Brothers,After writing to Windsor City Council to ask that they advocate against the Veterans Affairs office closure, I am pleased to announce that on Monday November 4, 2013, Windsor City Council voted unanimously to lobby the federal government to reverse their decision to close 9 Veterans Affairs offices across Canada. Please see the motion and letter attached. Let us continue to fight for our heroes and please remember to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11th in your community. In Solidarity,Sharon DeSousa
