International Women’s Day is a day to commemorate and take action on our goal of achieving gender equality. With what is happening in the world currently, we know that this struggle for equality is far from over.
When political leaders seek to legitimize the demeaning, degrading and abhorrent behaviours that treat women and all equity seeking groups as lesser, or not important, we have to stand up and take action. We have to use our voices and state, loud and publicly that this will not go unchallenged.
I encourage all of us to stand united, to stand as one to celebrate women, and to celebrate diversity. Let us never lose sight that our hard fought rights can all too easily be lost with apathy.
Please join your communities in their planned activities and rallies to continue the march for women’s equality by taking part in this year’s International Women’s Day’s events.
