Kingston – The Kingston Commissionaires (PSAC Local 818) have been on strike since June 24th, 2019. Many of these workers are veterans who have taken strike action to be able to secure paid sick leave and a fair contract. However, after almost 3 weeks on the picket line, the local MP, Mark Gerretsen, has yet to meet with these workers or offer any type of support to them.
“The livelihood of these veterans is on the line, you would think that their political representative would have at least come and met with them to see how he can help,” says Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “Other electoral candidates have come down to the picket line, yet the sitting MP is nowhere to be found.”
PSAC has now secured a meeting with Mr. Gerretsen on Tuesday, July 16th at 8:30 a.m. However, to show our members displeasure at the lack of support from their current MP, we will be moving our picket line to Mr. Gerretsen’s constituency office on this day.
