OLG workers at head office in Sault Ste Marie Unionize with PSAC

Sault Ste Marie – Workers employed at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation’s head office in Sault Ste Marie have officially joined the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).

On Friday, September 4, 2015, the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) issued PSAC with an interim certificate to represent the nearly 400 workers at OLG headquarters in the Soo.

“These workers will now have the collective power to negotiate with their employer, which is one of the many benefits of belonging to a union,” states Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “By joining PSAC, these workers will have access to resources and expertise that will assist them during this difficult transition by the OLG, as it pursues privatization.”

The interim certificate allows PSAC to proceed in representing workers at the OLG headquarters and begin the negotiating process to create a fair contract. A final certificate will be issued once the remaining disputed ballots have been settled by PSAC and the OLG.
