Union warns Canadians are losing their public services
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is holding a National Day of Action on Saturday September 15th, 2012 to protest the federal government’s austerity agenda. Under the Conservative government, public services have been slashed and tens of thousands of workers who provide them are being told their jobs are in jeopardy.
“Public services are crucial to the foundation of our communities. They reduce inequality and ensure that everyone has a standard of care that helps to better the quality of life for themselves and their families”, states Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for Ontario.
This Conservative government does not believe in strengthening the services that Canadians rely upon for their security and prosperity. The shroud of secrecy with which they have undertaken their reckless agenda of cuts is further proof that this government knows that what it is doing goes against the wishes of Canadians.
PSAC is standing together with other labour unions, community groups, human rights organizations and concerned citizens for a Canada that continues to invest in its people through strong social and public programs.
The following events have been planned for Saturday September, 15, 2012.
All are open to the media:
Toronto – “The People’s Court” demonstration at 1pm in front of the Toronto Court House at 361 University Avenue (at Armoury St).
