Ottawa – Cleaners employed by GDI Integrated Services who work at the Canadian Forces Base in Petawawa have been on strike since July 24th, 2019. GDI is demanding a number of concessions, including to health and safety provisions, benefits and staffing levels.
What: Rally at GDI Headquarters
When: Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 10 a.m.
Where: GDI Headquarters (580 Industrial Ave #1, Ottawa)
“GDI has failed to honour its previous contract obligations and the cuts they are demanding would further deteriorate the working standards of these hard-working cleaners,” says Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “The company’s actions show that they are more interested with reaching their 2 billion revenue goal then sharing some of those profits with the men and women they employ.”
To further pressure this employer to get back to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair agreement to end the strike, we will be picketing their headquarters in Ottawa.
“What GDI is demanding could put these workers safety in jeopardy and lower the quality of the cleaning services provided to our military personnel and their families,” states June Winger, National President of the Union of National Defence Employees. “They have been awarded a multi-million dollar contract with the Department of National Defence to provide cleaning services at the Base, yet are looking to further profit at the expense of these workers.”
