Duty to Accommodate Booklet: A PSAC Guide for Local Representatives
The duty to accommodate is usually thought of in relation to disability, but it relates to all grounds of discrimination found under human rights legislation, including culture, religion, family status and so on. The Guide is set up as a Question and Answer document. Laws change at a rapid pace and this document will be updated from time to time. Third Revision 2019.

This handbook is a compilation of tools and tips developed by PSAC or by other union and community partners to help you to know how to mobilize members and win positive change. It’s designed to give you some “nuts and bolts” tips to get started. It is meant to serve as a handy compilation of ideas, strategies and tips to help inform your activism and get you thinking about what will help your members build successful campaigns and actions.
Local Union Survey
PSAC has developed a Local Health Check survey to help Local Officers: (1) Assess your Local and (2) Determine Local development needs http://goo.gl/forms/aOU5rwwEzQ Once you complete the survey, contact your PSAC Regional Office and a Regional Representative can review your survey results and offer assistance with your Local's development needs.
Directly Chartered Locals
There are eighteen Directly Chartered Locals, representing a combined total of over 5,000 members across the PSAC Ontario Region. This DCL map illustrates where DCLs are located within the Ontario region, along with the sectors that their members fall within including: (1) academic (2) law enforcement and security (3) gaming (4) health care (5) contracted-out public services and others. PSAC Ontario facilitates learning events to connect Directly Chartered Locals across the region such as Directly Chartered Local Conferences, annual Academic Sector Meetings, First Nations Police Sector meetings as well as other local development initiatives. Contact your PSAC Regional Office to find out more about any upcoming learning events that might be relevant to your Local.
