Solidarity with UNITE HERE! Local 75

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) – Ontario Region, is proud to stand with the nearly 8,000 members of UNITE HERE! Local 75, in your fight to protect your union.

UNITE HERE! Local 75 members are part of our Labour Movement; you are our friends and colleagues, and have stood with us in advancing workers’ rights. PSAC Ontario proudly represents workers at several locations alongside UNITE HERE! Local 75 members, including at the OLG Slots at Woodbine. Our unions have a strong and respectful relationship, supporting each other during bargaining and standing shoulder to shoulder at countless events and marches.

It is disheartening to watch Unifor dismantle the solidarity and good will that forms the foundation of our movement. Unifor’s raiding campaigns are meant to confuse and mislead, and while UNITE HERE! Local 75 members are feeling the tension; all union members are at risk. PSAC Ontario joins the Canadian Labour Congress and the Ontario Federation of Labour in the call for Unifor to cease raiding activities and to respect the principles of the labour movement.

We are living in divisive times and we must not fall victim to intolerant rhetoric. American-based unions and Canadian-based unions can survive and thrive, together. All workers—regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, religion, gender identity, or any other factor that defines our individuality—are welcome in our workplaces and in our unions.

It’s time to stand with each other to protect what is important to all of us. We encourage all UNITE HERE! Local 75 members to stay strong and united. Together we can stand up for safer workplaces, stronger collective agreements, and fair and equitable wages for all workers.

In Solidarity,

Sharon DeSousa, Regional Executive Vice-President – Ontario
