When will we vote on the deal?

Ratification votes are currently being held across the country. They will conclude on April 13th, 2017, after which the results will be announced.

When will the deal come into effect?

If a majority of members vote “yes” in the ratification vote, PSAC will meet with the employer to sign your new collective agreement. With the exception of wages, which are retroactive, the new negotiated provisions come into effect on date of signing, unless otherwise specified.

Who will get back pay (retroactive pay) for the negotiated economic increases?

The new collective agreement is retroactive to June 22, 2014, expiring June 21, 2018. This means that you are entitled to back pay for the period of time you were employed and a TC member from June 22, 2014.

PSAC National President Robyn Benson and Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President Sharon DeSousa are at the United Nations in New York to press world leaders, including the Canadian government, to live up to their international legal obligations with respect to gender equality.

The governments are attending the 61st annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW61) and this year the major point of discussion is women’s economic status in the changing world of work.

“This year’s UNCSW meetings are especially relevant to members of the PSAC because the rights of women workers is at the top of the agenda,” explained Benson.

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is seeking nominations from affiliates, local unions and labour councils for the SOLIDARITY & PRIDE CHAMPION AWARD.

This new annual award is to acknowledge and celebrate individuals or groups who have made a significant or ongoing contribution to the advancement of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and two-spirit (LGBTQI) human rights, equity and inclusion.

We are excited to announce our 3rd OFL Women’s Leadership Summit!

This is a unique opportunity for union women to come together with like-minded trade union and community Sisters to share information about skill building, strategy and the incredible opportunities for women in the labour movement.

Women are now the majority of union members. Study after study shows that the future growth of the labour movement will be primarily women workers, particularly women workers who are from equity-seeking groups. The Summit will explore strategies to fight for the workers’ right’s agenda, elect progressive governments, build women’s involvement in unions and strengthen the labour movement today and in the future.

Bill C-27, An Act to amend the Pension Benefits Standards Act, is an attack on the retirement security of Canadians.

This bill will allow employers in the federal private sector and Crown Corporations to shift from good, defined benefit plans that provide secure and predictable pension benefits, into the much less secure form of target benefits. If passed, this bill would open the door to a disturbing trend of shifting all the risk of pension plans onto workers and retirees.
