International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3rd around the world. The theme for 2019 is “The Future is Accessible”.

This theme illustrates our need to continue to eliminate all barriers to full and equal participation of people living with disabilities. This means being able to access buildings without using stairs; ramps to local beaches; and obtaining a job without fear of discrimination.

Despite our dedication, your government has stubbornly kept fair compensation and working conditions out of reach. PSAC members—140,000 Canadian workers—are still without a new collective agreement or compensation for damages from the ongoing Phoenix pay disaster.

Classification is necessary to determine the relative value of one job in relation to other jobs in the public service, for the purposes of pay. Classification systems must operate without sexual bias and be capable of measuring the relative value of all jobs in the same establishment.

Classification Standards must assess skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions, to ensure compliance with the Canadian Human Rights Act.

The government’s continued negligence is forcing PSAC members to ramp up their workplace action, leading to a potential strike. In its mandate letter to the government, PSAC is urging the Liberals to ensure the stability of the federal government for all Canadians by moving quickly to resolve these issues.

Transphobia manifests in many forms – physical attacks, anti-trans policies, employment barriers, lack of healthcare or mental health support, discrimination, including the discriminatory invasion of trans bodies and more.

The Labour Board has announced Public Interest Commission (PIC) hearing dates for PSAC’s bargaining units representing federal government workers. The table below lists the PIC hearing date for each unit as well as the number of members affected.
