PSAC Ontario Regional Council By-Election - Alternate LGBTQ2+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans, Queer and 2 Spirit+) Members Representative

Greetings,

As a result of recent vacancy on the PSAC Ontario Council, we are holding a by-election in accordance with the PSAC Ontario By-laws, for the following vacant position:

Alternate LGBTQ2+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans, Queer and 2 Spirit+) Members representative.

Victory: PSAC wins major improvements to Public Service Dental Plan

The major highlight is a 47% increase to the annual maximum for routine and major services. The current maximum of $1,700 per year will gradually increase to $2,500 per year as follows:

  • $2,000 per year starting on January 1, 2019;
  • $2,250 per year starting on January 1, 2020; and
  • $2,500 per year starting on January 1, 2021.

Statement on government-mandated free speech policies

Ontario’s universities and colleges are vital spaces where a culture of rich academic debate and free expression should be fostered. Core to the mandate of our postsecondary institutions is the advancement of knowledge, and that requires our campuses to be places where all community members have the right to speak their minds and respectfully challenge each other intellectually. Faculty associations, labour unions, and student unions deeply believe in these rights, and will continue our collective work to uphold them.

Doug Ford and the threat to our democracy

The Public Service Alliance of Canada is deeply troubled by Ontario Premier Ford’s decision to over-ride the Charter Rights of Canadian citizens in Ontario after a judge determined that the government’s legislation to restructure Toronto City Council was unconstitutional.

Phoenix: PSAC launches Here for Canada national TV ad campaign

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is launching a national television ad campaign to highlight the dedication of public service workers throughout the Phoenix pay system disaster, which has now been going on for two and a half years. Despite missed paycheques, fending off debt collectors, and managing endless uncertainty, PSAC members have continued to be here for Canada.
