Thunder Bay – The Public Service Alliance of Canada’s (PSAC) negotiating team met with a conciliator to attempt to negotiate a fair agreement with the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) on August 24, 2016. Unfortunately, a deal could not be reached and PSAC has now asked the Ontario Labour Relations Board to file a No Board report, allowing for a legal strike or lock-out within 17 days of receiving the report.

Kingston – On June 14, 2016, Commissionaires at CFB Kingston, represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 00818, overwhelmingly rejected the employer’s final offer. In addition, Commissionaires have sent their employer a message by voting in favour of a strike, should the employer refuse to continue bargaining.

Toronto - On May 16,2016, the Ontario Labour Relations Board certified the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), to represent 92 workers at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Lesmill Lab, an I.T. facility in Toronto.

London - On December 8th, Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) at Western University cast ballots in a vote to join the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Local 610, which has represented academic workers at Western since 1996. Western refuses to recognize PDFs as employees and has started a costly legal battle to keep the ballot box sealed. PDF’s have exercised their legal right to join a union and want to begin negotiating a first contract with the University.

Toronto – Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members who work for Canada Border Services Agency and are a part of our Component (Customs and Immigration Union), are warning of changes that are undermining the security of our borders. In addition to staffing cuts of 1000 front line officers brought about through the government’s budget cuts, we’re seeing the introduction of virtual Offices (Morses line Quebec and Piney Manitoba) where cars report in by phone and are ‘cleared’ by an border officer hundreds of kilometers away.

Sault Ste Marie – Workers employed at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation’s head office in Sault Ste Marie have officially joined the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). On Friday, September 4, 2015, the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) issued PSAC with an interim certificate to represent the nearly 400 workers at OLG headquarters in the Soo.

London – On Thursday, September 3, 2015, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) London Area Council will hold its annual Labour Day BBQ. This year’s theme will be focused on making sure our members “Get out and Vote”.   When: Thursday, September 3, 2015 Time: 12 pm (noon) – 1:15 pm Where: 451 Talbot Street (Courtyard) The event draws hundreds of public sector workers, who will be able to ask their political representatives how they will improve public services for Canadians.

Kingston – On Monday, August 31, 2015 at 6:30 am Commissionaires will be picketing at the Royal Military College entrance off La Salle Causeway. The Commissionaires, are represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and are currently in Conciliation with their employer to try and negotiate a new collective agreement. The key issue for these workers is the need for paid sick days. Currently, should a Commissionaire become ill they are forced to use vacation days or take the day off without pay.

Sault Ste. Marie – On Thursday, August 13, 2015, approximately 400 workers will take part in an Ontario Labour Relations Board vote to decide whether to become unionized with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC). Workers approached the union for representation due to concerns the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) Corporation’s privatization plans will lead to job losses in Sault Ste. Marie.  

On July 16, 2015, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) won an arbitral award for its members; officers who are employed by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS). The arbitral award, which substantially increases the pay of officers, who unfortunately are still funded less than their OPP counterparts, will narrow this discriminatory gap.
