The OFL Young Workers’ Committee will be hosting the second Young Workers’ Assembly on November 21 and 22, 2015, immediately preceding the 13th Biennial OFL Convention (November 23-27, 2015). This informative and instructive session is open to all young worker delegates to Convention and young worker activists. It will include a full day of educational sessions and discussion forums, followed by a morning of training for the Convention ahead.

This morning, Pierre Poilièvre and other Conservative candidates in Ottawa made an announcement directed towards federal public service workers.

The press conference, along with an open letter from Stephen Harper to the public service, followed campaign announcements regarding the federal public service by the NDP and Liberals earlier this week.

If you are caring for a relative, particularly one with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, you know that caregiving is a resource-intensive responsibility.

Caregiving is especially taxing when you are also engaged in paid employment. It becomes a balancing act that often results in higher levels of work-life conflict, as well as emotional and physical strain.

A new survey is asking employed caregivers to share their experiences.

A new Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives study entitled Waiting to Happen: Why we need major changes to the health and safety regime in federally regulated workplaces was released today. This week, Elections Canada mailed voter information cards to all registered electors. Here is what you need to know about voter registration:

The Federal Government is in the process of drafting legislation representing an unprecedented attack on the retirement security of all Canadians.  If the Conservatives are re-elected and push through this legislation, the defined benefit pension plans of federally-regulated workers will be at risk of being converted to target plans with lower pension benefits for both retirees and active employees.

Significant incentives would be provided to employers to get rid of the much better defined benefit plans and convert these to targeted pension plans. This will be at the expense of stable retirement income that workers have already paid for through their pension contributions.
